Prof COLM O’BRIEN

Professor COLM O’BRIEN (MD, FRCS, FRCOphth, FARVO)

In 1998, after working for six years at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, I returned to work at the Mater Miscericordiae University Hospital, Dublin. In 2004 I was appointed Professor Of Ophthalmology at University College Dublin.

I have supervised over 37 research degree students (PhD, MD, M.Sc, M.Med Sc.), and have a h-index of 30, having published over 145 peer-reviewed publications. I serve on the ‘Scientific Advisory Board of the Glaucoma Foundation’ in New York, and the ‘Moorfields Eye Charity’, Hospital London. In 2016 I extended my research role with the appointment to ‘Associate Director, UCD Clinical Research Centre .

I am a past Chairman of the ‘UK and Eire Glaucoma Society’, and the ‘Glaucoma Program Committee’ at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology

I have dedicated himself to providing high quality care for my public and private patients, teaching the UCD university students, while directing and supervising the cutting edge of Glaucoma research. In addition I am and always will be, a longstanding stalwart of the Mater Hospital Cup rugby team.
